The service
Other fixed costs: booking software, insurance (yearly ÷ 12), education, phone and anything else you pay each month whether you are busy or not. Booked % is the share of your working hours spent with paying clients. Service time is the time the service blocks in your book, including set-up and clean-up. The price is rounded to the cent before card fees are worked out.
How it works
Rent per month = weekly rent × 52 ÷ 12 (or your monthly rent). Booked hours = working days × hours per day × booked %. Chair cost per booked hour = fixed costs per month ÷ booked hours. Take-home per booked hour = target take-home ÷ booked hours. Price = (product + chair cost + take-home for the service minutes + card fixed fee) ÷ (1 − card %).
Worked example (the values above): rent of $300 a week is $300 × 52 ÷ 12 = $1,300.00 a month, and with $140.00 of other fixed costs your chair costs $1,440.00 a month. 20 days × 8 hours = 160 hours, and 75% booked is 120 booked hours, so the chair costs $1,440.00 ÷ 120 = $12.00 per booked hour, and a $4,000.00 take-home needs $4,000.00 ÷ 120 = $33.33 per booked hour. For a 60-minute service with $3.00 of product: $3.00 + $12.00 + $33.33 + $0.15 = $48.48, divided by (1 − 3%) is $49.98. Card fees on $49.98 are $49.98 × 3% + $0.15 = $1.65, which leaves $49.98 − $3.00 − $12.00 − $1.65 = $33.33 for you.
The booked % matters most: the same costs spread over fewer booked hours make every service dearer to deliver. Compare booth rent with commission, or see all calculators.
